Ferrero, the Italian company behind Nutella, Kinder and Ferrero Rocher, has agreed to buy Purely Elizabeth, the Boulder, Colorado brand known for its ancient grain granola, superfood oatmeal and cereals. Ferrero announced the deal on August 14, 2026. It's expected to close in the coming months, pending regulatory approval, and the price wasn't disclosed.

Founder Elizabeth Stein stays on as CEO, and Ferrero says Purely Elizabeth will run as a standalone brand, keeping its "distinct identity and commitment to quality." It's Ferrero's second big breakfast move in two years, after it bought WK Kellogg Co, the maker of Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops, in 2025.

What it means if you buy Purely Elizabeth

Nothing changes on the shelf yet. Ferrero's announcement doesn't mention changing any recipes; it talks about wider distribution and new products. When a new owner does change a recipe, the first sign is usually on the ingredient list, not the front of the bag. If you regularly buy Original Ancient Grain Granola, Banana Nut Superfood Oatmeal or Honey Peanut Butter Superfood Cereal, it's worth scanning the bag now and then to see whether the ingredients have changed.
