Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
A highly processed meat substitute also known as texturized vegetable proteins (TVP) or texturized soy proteins (TSP), widely used in soy-based meat replacements and are byproducts of soy oil production. Solvents are used to extract the oil leaving a flour-like product that is then mixed with water and extruded under pressure through a die. Organic versions use physical pressing instead solvents to remove the fat.

Soy is recognized by the FDA as one of the 8 most common triggers to food allergies. Allergic reactions may include tingling in the mouth, hives, swelling, wheezing, stomach pains, itchy skin, flushing and diarrhea. For some it may even trigger anaphylaxis. TVP and TSP also contain MSG which may cause headaches, muscle tightness, numbness, tingling, weakness and flushing in some people.
