About Trader Joe's

Trader Joe's is an American grocery chain headquartered in Monrovia, California, and most of what it sells carries its own private label. Joe Coulombe opened the first store in Pasadena in 1967, and the chain is known for frozen meals, snacks and a constantly rotating lineup of new and seasonal products made for it by outside suppliers.

Theo Albrecht, then owner of Aldi Nord, bought Trader Joe's in 1979, and it remains privately held by the Albrecht family behind Aldi Nord. It is separate from Aldi Süd, which runs the Aldi stores in the United States.
