Definition

Potassium sorbate inhibits mold growth, prevent spoilage and preserve freshness of the products. It is commonly found in processed foods such as fruit juice, soda, soy sauce, ketchup etc.

Health Impact

Even though sorbate is used legally in the food industry, it might result in harmful side effects such allergies and urticaria (hives). It can reduce the abundance of specific bacteria in the gut and interfere with their normal metabolism.
