Intersnack Group, the German snack maker, has agreed to buy Utz Brands and take it private. The companies announced the deal on July 21, 2026. It values Utz at about $2.9 billion including debt.

Utz's founding family keeps half the company. After closing, Intersnack and the Rice and Lissette family will each own 50%. Dylan Lissette, Utz's board chair, becomes executive chair.

It's Intersnack's entry into the US. Executive chairman Johan van Winkel calls the US snack market one "where we do not currently have a presence."

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. It needs regulatory approval and a shareholder vote, including a majority of shareholders not affiliated with the family.

What it means if you buy Boulder Canyon

Boulder Canyon, the kettle chip brand known for avocado oil and olive oil chips, is an Utz brand and goes with the company. So do Utz, Zapp's and On The Border.

No recipe changes have been announced. If you regularly buy Classic Sea Salt Kettle Style Potato Chips, the ingredient list on the bag is where a change would show up first.

Good Health snacks aren't part of the deal. Utz sold that brand to Our Home in February 2024.
