Definition
A type of iron supplement that is commonly used to treat or prevent iron deficiency anemia. Ferrous gluconate is also used as a food additive to fortify foods with iron, particularly in infant formulas and other products designed for people with increased iron requirements.

Health Impact
Often causes gastrointestinal discomfort which leads to diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting and can interact poorly with other medications. Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite are some also possible side effects.
